The
Glasgow Science Fiction Writer's Circle has been running since the
mid-Eighties, and has spawned several novelists, and quite a few short
story writers who have seen their work published in the professional
sf press around the world, as well as appearing in anthologies, magazines,
and annual 'year's best' collections.
We meet fortnightly in a room at the Glasgow Film Theatre, an art
house cinema located close to the city centre. The GFT is located
at 12 Rose Street, just off Sauchiehall Street.
We operate according to the Milford Rules: everyone gets a couple
of weeks to read a submitted story (usually via email), then on the
night of a discussion, with the author present, the other writers
critique it, going around the table. It's only after this that the
author of the piece gets to reply to their critique. It's a method
that's worked exceedingly well for us over the years. If you're interested
in participating in our group, please email us. Beginners are as welcome
as more experienced writers (almost none of us had anything published
professionally prior to joining the group).
If you want to come along and see how we operate without necessarily
submitting a story, this is entirely okay, as we're very friendly,
and the group contains a strong social element.
The writers: long-term members of GSFWC have been published in Interzone,
Analog, Third Alternative, REM, Other Edens, Shipbuilding, Year's
Best Fantasy and Horror, and many others.
Some members past and present have gone on to become pro and semi-pro
writers and novelists. |
